Today in class we took a POP Quiz on Ch 2, Sections 1 and 2. This was an Open Notes Quiz.

We watched a clip about “Spanish Explorers”  and answered questions.

We took a look at a Primary Source, “Christopher Columbus’s Journal” and students need to complete the exercises. This will be checked in class tomorrow.

Our next TEST will be on Tuesday, September 8.

Today in class I collected the map “To India By Sea” and I was very disappointed because many students had not completed this map. It was to be finished last night if not finished in class.

We checked and discussed the Ch 2 – Section 1 notes.

We began Section 2 in class and the students received the Section 2 notes and the map “Columbus Reaches America”. The students were given about 45 minutes to work on this. If not finished in class, must be finished for homework.

There will be a POP QUIZ on Sections 1 and 2 on Monday. The Quiz will be Open Notes. Students will be allowed to staple their “Viking” facts to the quiz for possible Bonus points.

Today in class we began Chapter 2.

We watched “The Vikings in North America” and each student had to write at least 10 facts from the film. These will be asked for later when we have the Quiz on Sections 1 and 2. They will be counted for Bonus Points.

Students need to finish reading Section 2 (pp. 38 – 41) and complete the notes. They also need to complete the map “To India by Sea” using the map on p. 41 and the directions on the back of the printed map.

We will check and discuss the notes in class tomorrow.

Today in class we made our Time Lines on “big paper”. Students had to include the births and deaths of each of our Tennessee People (Sam Houston, Andrew Johnson, Andrew Jackson, James K. Polk, and Sequoyah) and two other facts/dates for each. They also had to have five illustrations. If they did not finish in class, they may finish for homework.

Tomorrow there will be a TEST on Chapter 1. Students received the Study Guide for the the TEST in class yesterday.  EVERYTHING on the Study Guide WILL BE on the TEST!!! Students also need to know their Tennessee People for the TEST.

The Bonus question is: “Sam Houston was the governor of which two states?” Each answer will be worth 2 bonus points.

Today in class we checked the Section 4 notes.

Students also turned in their magazine covers, which will count as a TEST grade.

The Laptop Lab has been moved to a new location(in the basement) and is not quite ready for classes today. We will do our “Tennessee People Time Lines” tomorrow.

Students received the Study Guide for the Chapter 1 TEST, that will be given on Wednesday. They also need to answer questions 1-10 on p. 31 and 11-12 on p. 32 in the textbook. Students were given 40 minutes of class time to work on this review. If not completed, students need to finish tonight and begins studying.We will be working on our Time Lines the entire class period tomorrow.

Today in class we checked our Section 3 notes.

Students need to read Section 4 and complete the Section 4 notes. Many did not finish in class and will need to complete the notes for homework.

The Tennessee People data needs to be completed this weekend. Students need to record the birth and death of individual. They also need to choose two other facts and record the dates for these. They will go to the Laptop Lab on Monday and create a Time Line using their data.

The Native American magazine covers are also due on Monday and will be collected for a TEST grade. Students need to return the direction/grading sheet also.

The Chapter 1 TEST will be given on Wednesday, August 26. A Study Guide will be given in class on Monday. EVERYTHING on the Study Guide WILL BE on the TEST.

I enjoyed meeting all of the parents last night and look forward to working with our kids this year.

Tennessee People was checked for a homework grade. Students were then given some “very important facts” about these Tennesseans. These facts will be used to construct a Time Line in the Laptop Lab on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Questions may also show up at any time on Quizzes or TESTS!

Students were given Section 3 notes to complete. These will be checked in class tomorrow.

A handout with directions and a grading rubric for “A Native American Magazine Cover” was distributed and explained. This project is due on Monday, August 24 and will be counted as a TEST grade.

There will be a Chapter 1 TEST on Wednesday, August 26. A Study Guide will be given on Monday.

We also viewed “”500 Nations – Mexico” and answered multiple choice questions as we watched

Students should have the “Tennessee People” handout for tomorrow. It will be checked for a homework completion grade. We will also check this for accuracy during class. On Monday and Tuesday of next week, we will go to the Laptop Lab and use this Tennessee information to develop a time line.

Our first TEST will be given on Wednesday, August 26. A Chapter 1 Study Guide will be given to students on Monday.

Students were assigned the reading of Section 2 – pp.10 – 15 and notes from Section 2

Tennessee People due on Thursday, August 20

Today in class students were give the “Tennessee People” assignment. They may use their textbooks (pp. P1-P15), the internet, or any other reference materials to find the facts. This is due in class on Thursday, August 29. We will use this next week to make a time line in the Computer Lab.

Students were also assigned the notes for Chapter 1, Section 1 (pp. 2-9) These will be checked in class tomorrow.
